1.9.9 — UI Tweaks

This release includes a reorganization of our goal categories along with a handful of usability tweaks (especially to our add note feature and to our step instructions) and bug fixes (including three crashers).

Read on for a bit about goal categories and how they relate to your character.

As we transition from Lift 1.0 to Lift 2.0, we’re transitioning from a pure tracking app to goal support. The new Lift is a coaching platform.

If your goal is to pick up a new habit, then all you need is the motivation of tracking your progress. This was the core of our Lift 1.0 coaching platform, along with support from friends and reminders.

However, if your goal is harder, more complicated, or outside of your current knowledge, then you’re going to need more guidance. That guidance is coming in the form of instructions from coaches and tips from the community.

This guidance is the main expansion of our coaching platform for Lift 2.0 (still a few releases away).

In our old Lift, people asked themselves, “What new behavior should I track?”

Now we want to pose the question, “What area of yourself do you want to improve?”

We’re all trying to be healthier, fitter, more productive, happier and smarter. So we’ve reorganized the Add Goal section to be around those personal characteristics. Doing that makes it easier for us to add sub-categories for each characteristic.

For example, we just took our research into diet and added a “Health: Diet” category. Every single one of those plans has been validated by our research to lead to weight loss. Our data said 1% of your body weight over four weeks (on average).

Categorization systems are hard. For example, we put meditation under happiness, even though it’s one of my most successful productivity tricks. But overall, I hope you’ll find this system easier to navigate.

With optimism for all of our improvement,

Tony & Jon, Matt, Erin, Alicia, Herzog, Dan, Terrie
