Be Mindful

Our fifth principle is Be Mindful.

You eat healthier when you’re aware of what you put into your body.

Many people stop dieting because their expectations are too high. They think that they have to change all of their bad eating habits at once or stick to a diet religiously to get any benefit. When they don’t, they give up or feel guilty.

It’s just not true.

You don’t need to be perfect. Participants in our diet research who stuck to the dietmost of the time lost about as much weight as people who stuck to the diet all of the time.

The first step to eating healthier is becoming mindful of what you eat, when you stick to your diet and when you don’t. That’s how you will learn and create strategies to stick to your diet more often.
