Believe

Our sixth principle is Believe.

Our beliefs are among the most power and creative forces in the universe according to Albert Einstein.

What you do now is a reflection of who you believe you are. Since your habits are a reflection of your identity and beliefs, in order to change a habit you often need to re-work your identity.

The truth is our habits do not define us. They are constantly changing and evolving.

Your habits are simply a series of learned behaviors that you’re choosing to do. They can be changed to suit the type of person you want to be but you have to be willing to create a new set of beliefs about yourself.

Most people focus on the desired outcome and say, “I want to lose 30lbs.” The problem is if you don’t believe you’re someone who can lose 30lbs then you’ll never do it.

You need to believe it in order to achieve it.

Geneviève considered becoming a vegetarian for years before she finally took the leap. Once she started tracking the meals and then days where she ate as a vegetarian she began to gain confidence. It allowed her to change her identity and now she’s got an 80 day streak that she’s incredibly proud of. “My whole perception started to change when I started calling myself a vegetarian,” she shared.

The trick to changing what you believe is to start very small in order to prove to yourself that you’re capable of being this new person.

James Clear wrote about identity-based behavior change. He said, “Let’s say you want to become the type of person who never misses a workout. (If you believed that about yourself, how much easier would it be to get in shape?) Every time you choose to do a workout — even if it’s only 5 minutes — you’re casting a vote for this new identity in your mind. Every action is a vote for the type of person you want to become.”

If you’re reading this it proves that you have a deep desire to increase your healthy food and fitness habits. You are taking tangible steps toward creating the body and life you want by staying engaged in this process. Remember that and give yourself the credit you deserve.

Now is a good time to consider what old beliefs may be holding you back or what new beliefs you want to begin creating.
